The Baby Steps vs. Your Financial Plan

Image
Hey Y'all! Happy Sunday! As I've mentioned before, Megan and I use Dave Ramsey's Baby Steps as a guideline for our finances. While this program starts very simple, it is a plan you can use from wherever your starting point would be, but also one that can take you through steps of building wealth and giving tremendously. What does your plan look like? Do you have one? Are you actively working on something, or a couple things, or so many things you're not even sure what they all are until you get email notices or bills in the mail? Would a little more organization help? Would seeing progress change how you felt? Dave's Baby Step plan is designed to activate your feelings towards making progress and use those feelings to get and keep you motivated on your financial journey. Every journey is different, but nothing is impossible. A quick list of the steps: Save a $1,000 starter emergency fund Pay off all non-mortgage debt Build a 3-6 month emergency fund Save ...

Control

Hey Y'all! I came across two quotes recently that reminded me of each other. Some people are very quote driven and need something new. I don't always seek them out, but when you find a good one, you know immediately. These two spoke to me and tied together instantly. Control (transitive verb) ~ to have power over. What can you control? Nothing? Everything? Some things? Who decides this? Megan posted the first quote, "Today I will not stress over things I can't control" to her IG story. This quote is so important because every day we come across hundreds if not thousands of situations, big or small, that we cannot control. We have a decision to let them impact our lives, or to keep them from impacting our lives. The decision is ours. The second quote I came across on Instagram from Jaylen Brown , NBA player for the Boston Celtics. I've heard variations of this quote, but it reads "You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can...

Drops in a Bucket

Hey Y'all! During our walk on Friday night, I came across the tree pictured below. I walked past and turned around. I immediately had my phone out to grab a picture and Megan wanted to keep walking. I told her to come back and look at it. Yes, it is just a tree. But when you look closer, it is a tree, growing from the concrete, between two buildings, with limited sunlight, no soil, etc. If this tree can make it through life, so can we! One new life metaphor I've been using lately involves making progress. Someone told me this theory, and I didn't think much of it at that time, but I have come back to it a number of times. "If you keep putting drops in a bucket, eventually the bucket will fill up." I've been using this metaphor in multiple areas of my life and our life, and it certainly pertains to the financial side. If you string together a good week, a couple weeks, then a month, then a few months, six months, a year, a couple years, a decade, and a lif...
